This is an interesting piece.... it's called a "Silent Butler". It was used in older days to empty ashtrays or when dusting. Just flip the lid open by pressing the lever with your finger and swipe your dust or ashes into the compartment and let go of the lever and the lid closes to encase the dirt and debree . It has a comfortable handle and a beautiful engraved flower on the lid. It's made of a hammered metal. Use it for it's purpose or put it on disaply. It would make an interesting conversation piece!
